The Railway Board has sanctioned 41,000 additional posts in safety-related categories, with the largest allocations going to assistant loco pilots, technicians and track maintainers.
Railway Recruitment Boards are expected to issue the centralised employment notice in September, with the computer-based test scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
The Board has simultaneously directed zonal railways to complete the filling of existing vacancies in the running cadre within six months, and to report month-wise progress to the Establishment Directorate.

Recognised federations have welcomed the sanction but have pressed for the restoration of the running-allowance component in the pension calculation for running staff.
